Release of the ABT-System: Aircraft Boarding & Transfer System

Developed in close collaboration with aviation partners, the ABT-System is designed to support the safe, efficient and dignified transfer of passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) during aircraft boarding and deboarding. Building on real-world feedback from cabin crews and accessibility specialists, the system combines electrically powered operation, adjustable dimensions and a design developed specifically for the confined space of aircraft cabins.

September 30, 2025 – Special Mobility introduces the Aircraft Boarding & Transfer System (ABT-System), professional aviation passenger-handling equipment designed to transfer passengers between an aisle chair and a designated aircraft seat. Its adaptable configuration supports operation in a range of aircraft cabin layouts, including economy-class seating and business-class premium pods, subject to compatibility with the relevant configuration.

The ABT-System features electrically adjustable length, width and wheelbase, allowing its configuration to be adapted to the available space between aircraft seat rows. Remote-controlled operation enables aviation personnel to manage the transfer process while reducing the need for manual lifting and manual adjustments.

Designed for the operational demands of aircraft boarding and deboarding, the ABT-System incorporates a replaceable battery system, an integrated failsafe mechanism and compatibility with track-and-trace functionality. These features support operational flexibility for airlines and ground service providers managing passenger transfers within the aircraft cabin. The system has been developed with a focus on passenger dignity, crew ergonomics and practical use in the aviation environment. Its adjustable design and electrically powered lifting mechanism help facilitate passenger transfers in the restricted space around aircraft seating, including selected business-class configurations.

At Special Mobility, we believe that accessible air travel depends on equipment designed around the practical requirements of passengers and aviation personnel. The ABT-System reflects this approach, providing a dedicated solution for passenger transfers during boarding and deboarding.
